Hell or Beauty

The new pastor of my church recently made a bold attempt at describing "Hell." That's right folks, the place with the Lake of Fire; the place lacking the presence of God.
During the sermon, he joked that hell was really an unending commute in a Yugo with no air or radio. After the joking, he got a little personal and touched the hearts of all the romantics in the room. You see "Hell" is not so much a place as it is a state of mind, of the soul. I connected this idea right away when he expanded by telling a familiar story. The pastor described a woman who fell in love with a man, one truly chosen by God. The man leaves for war and later presumed dead. Even while in mourning, the woman marries another man for money or safety. Years later he returns unharmed looking for her.
I wonder if there isn't a bit of "Hell" in those who have let love slip away? Maybe love has been lost through miscommunication. Or maybe love is slipping away right under our noses; the worst kind of Hell anyone could experience.
