As the leaves on the Aspen trees begin to change, I am given within my life a "new start." In a lot of ways, our American society still functions around a school year and every year at this time, we all get a "new start."
A friend of mine, I will call her Jo, informed me yesterday that within each grouping of Aspen trees, a common root system is shared, so when you see a section of yellow leaved trees and a green one close by, you can be sure the green tree is a part of another root system.
This got me thinking about the Community of Saints and Believers. We are all connected at our root (or at the vine) to Jesus, as is written in John chapter 15. Without a connection to the root, we can do nothing. But what about our connection to the other trees? Can we really walk in this world without the help of other believers? Is fellowship commanded in scripture, like so many other things, for our help, safety and well-being? I am thinking - Yes! I am thinking that when we are growing through times of change.... like autumn for the Aspens, we need each other most.
Take time to build regular connections to safe and loving followers of Christ, then when the leaves fall, you will be glad you are rooted together.
