Recently, the church I work for has seen its unfair share of harmful leadership and destructive conversation (gossip). Since November 2008, we have been trying to find safe havens that lead us in the right direction. In other words, basic bible study, worship and fellowship time where we know how things go. In an effort to begin some healing within the choir and praise band, I decided to have 10 minute devotionals and conversations about the upcoming Sunday's Gospel. You know, go back to our first love and see if the safe haven is there. After four weeks of this, I am finally seeing results. Results that show a lack of support in my idea. Choir members are coming 15 minutes late to rehearsal as to miss the devotional and continue to complain about any effort to put Jesus first, i.e. - getting rid of unnecessary church business in the worship service.
To this, I must remember why I am serving members of a church; because they are the direct recipients of my service to God. I can not serve people, Church, or the poor without first focusing on my service to my Savior. Devotionals will continue, now, in the middle of rehearsal.
