I am searching for a new name for one of my featured Blog friends. In the Old Testament, a name was very, very important and very descriptive. In fact, the Name of God was not spoken or read aloud by Jewish believers, according to exegetical information. The word "Shem," or "Hashem" which means "the Name" was used in its place out of respect. Cain (possession) and Abel (breath) are quite telling, as well as the name Seth (compensation).
Other favored names found in the Hebrew Testament are - King David (beloved), Ruth (friendship) and Samuel (Shem-El) which mean "the Name is El."
Fateful names include, Sodom (burning), Gomorrah (submersion) and Gomer which means "complete."
A name I am very fond of is Sarai, wife of Abram which means "princess." When God changed her name, He though better and named her - Sarah which means "noblewoman." Finally, I was thinking about the name Joseph which means, "Jehovah has added." What has He added... blessing?....grief?....time?.....a child? In any case, choosing a name is not a light task. I will need to take my time for this name change.
