This weekend I spent Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon learning about the genocide crisis in Darfur, Sudan. To be blunt, as you and I sit in the warm protection of the most powerful country in the world, African families are being systematically killed. The government of Sudan funds the Janjaweed (the Devil's on Horseback) as they set fire, rape women and children and kill the families, village by village across the country. Since 1994, 400,000+ Sudanese Africans have been killed by their government. 2.5 million have been displaced (refugees) to neighboring countries.
This post is not an attempt to make anyone feel guilty about their life or choices, but an effort to show that God's people in the desert of Africa are hurting and targets of evil. When asked about what God is doing in this circumstance, or why God allows this I can only say, "He weeps for the innocent, for those who hurt and have no hope." He is their God too and laments over the evil in this world.
The population of Darfur is changing from families - to widows and orphans. This is an open opportunity to pray and weep for what God cares about. If you would like to contribute to action, here are some great websites: Also, rent the movie: The Devil Came on Horseback
