My friend Knitting Grace reminded me yesterday - to stop looking back and keep my eyes forward. This is in reference to romantic relationships. I agree but find it a hard task that needs to be restarted each day.
Today's devotional ideas was about friendships, failed connections and the need to feel those relationships as real. Guaranteed, you will never forget the loss of a significant relationship, and nor should you. The chemistry and insight we gain from connecting with people becomes a part of who we are today... how we think, react, accept, learn. On each occasion when we find ourselves suffocating from the events or elements of past relationship, we can make a choice.
1) Run
2) process the reality of your feelings and situation and thank God for the opportunity.
Living with God's Spirit on fire in our hearts is not an easy lifestyle. We must allow the uncomfortable turmoil in our own lives and touch those around us at the same time. As Henri Nouwen would say, this is the "wounded healer:" a truly amazing place to be for the working and glory of God.
Remember that God is real and wants to come to our aid. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God:
(2 Cor. 1:3-4)
