A New Thing

For about a year now, one phrase has whispered softly in my mind. It comes during silent prayer when I have nothing ready, like God speaks instead of me. This phrase pops up in meditation during tough moments of decision. It is simple, it is: "Let Me Do a New Thing."
Somewhat reminiscent of Isaiah 43:19 which reads, "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." Or from Jeremiah 31:22, "How long will you wander, O unfaithful daughter? The Lord will create a new thing on earth-- a woman will surround a man."
I am still pressing into God for the meaning of this idea in my life. What it does give me is hope. Hope and patience for His work to be done. When I look for a "new thing" I look beyond stereotype and predictable solutions or reactions. God's question: "do you not perceive it?" makes me smile connecting me to the blatant work and humor of God, as if He is saying, "Sarah, I am giving you the biggest hint possible."
Well, I will continue to enjoy each opportunity as I listen for God's warm voice and share coffee and Thai food with Jeopardy Champ. I am sure God is waiting for me to get it too.

It's cool that he's doing this thing, and it's not all on you to make it happen.
