Walking, Not Talking

The end of the year devotionals usually get a little sappy and obvious, so I dove back into Advent (Dec 12) for my devotional today. The concepts come from Brennan Manning and Ephesians 3:12. Because of Christ and our faith in Him, we can now come fearlessly into God's presence, assured of His glad welcome.

Do we understand how many people are afraid of God and the idea of being in His presence? Many! The comforting thing to me is that if I know what Christ did for me and that He is a resting place, I am better able to let my friends, family and loved ones be themselves. I will not expect them to supply the missing "needs" I require. God is the supplier... author and finisher... not romantic interests, or close girl friends.

Manning asks questions about our "walk" verses our "talk." Does our faith influence the way we read the newspaper, practice giving and share with others? Does it structure the way we act, listen, and talk to friends? It should.

If we, as believers can show a patient, warm presence toward anyone we talk to, they may ask why we are so "cool" or "nice." It isn't that we want to be noticed, but that we might desire everyone to experience the presence of God. His presence is in you, Beloved. Take the time to offer it whenever you can.
